Press Release - Announcement of New Show Site for Long Beach Summer Shows

September 15, 2005

Hi All:

I am pleased to announce that the City of Long Beach has approved holding our summer shows at Elk Dorado Park, Long Beach, California.

This site is three times the size of the George Allen Field at CSU-Long Beach. It will provide sufficient room for field events as well as all breed, group and breed club conformation events. I am also please to report that this site is only a few miles from CSULB. We can still use our hotels, airports, restaurants and other accommodations that serve us and our exhibitors so well.

Best of all, the cost of grounds and tenting will be substantially reduced which will put our summer shows on solid financial footing. We can still hold the best shows in the country, in a park-like setting, without going "bankrupt".

The George Allen Field has been a wonderful show site over the past ten or so years. I still think it is one of the best dog show sites n the country. We have held some wonderful events there and I thank the CSULB Staff for allowing us the opportunity to hold our shows on the George Allen Field.

However, the University is growing and they have many more sport and other activities then when we first arrived. At the same time, we have seen a dramatic increase in field event participation and new breeds being exhibited at our shows,. This, along with the construction projects now in progress at CSULB, make it almost impossible to hold a dog show until these projects are completed which will be two or three years in the future.

We have also experienced increasing grounds and equipment costs over the past few years. This has put a strain on all our budgets and must be addressed. We cannot continue to increase costs for our exhibitors without adversely affecting participation.

We have not "burned our bridges" and are welcome at CSULB. However, I truly believe we have "outgrown" each other and it is not in anyone's best interest for us to remain at this time.

The City of Long Beach wants a long term commitment from us which should make us secure in our move to El Dorado Park in 2006.

I look forward to working with all of you in planning the use and layout for this new show site and holding outstanding and cost effective events for the fancy.

Thanks for you continuing support ... Jack Smith
